Santé Lyrics Translated

[INTRO]

À ceux qui n’en ont pas

À ceux qui n’en ont pas

To those who don’t have one

To those who don’t have one

[VERSE 1]

Rosa, rosa

Rosa, rosa

When we make a mess, you clean it up

And you, Albert

When we drink, you pick up the glass

Céline, bataire (The first is a name the second has no meaning but the contraction of the two sounds almost as Célibataire = single)

You, you take jackets in the checkroom

Arlette, stop

You, the party, you spend it in the bathroom

[CHORUS]

How about celebrating those who don’t celebrate

For once, I’d like to raise a glass to those who don’t have one

To those who don’t have one

[VERSE 2]

Quoi les bonnes manières?

Pourquoi j’f’rais semblant?

What about manners?

Why would I pretend?

She gets paid to do it anyway

You think you’re my mother?

In an hour I’ll be back, make sure it’s clean

So we can eat on the floor

Three hours I’ve been waiting, really

Is he making them or what?

I’m glad it’s only two drinks

Call me your manager

And make it quick, your career could end like this

[CHORUS]

Yes, let us celebrate those who do not celebrate

Once again, I’d like to raise a glass to those who don’t have one

To those who don’t have one

To those who don’t have one

[VERSE 3]

Frotter, frotter

Mieux vaut ne pas s’y (reference to the french expression “ne pas s’y frotter” meaning to “don’t mess with it”)

Frotter, frotter

Si tu n’me connais pas

Brosser, brosser

Tu pourras toujours te (reference to the french expression “aller se faire brosser” meaning to “go away”)

Brosser, brosser

Si tu ne me respectes pas

Scrub, scrub

It’s better not to

Scrub, scrub

If you don’t know me

Brush, brush,

You can always

Brush, brush

If you don’t respect me

[CHORUS]

Yes, let us celebrate those who do not celebrate

Once again, I’d like to raise a glass to those who don’t have one

To those who don’t have one

[VERSE 4]

Airplane pilots or nurses

Truck drivers, flight attendants

Bakers or fishermen

A drink to the champions of the worst schedules

To young parents rocked by crying

To professional insomniacs

And all those who suffer from heartache

Who have no heart for celebrations

Who have no heart for celebrations

About Santé

The single was released on the 15th of October 2021 after a long wait of six years (Stromae took a break in 2015 after a burnout). Santé (meaning health) was announcing the next new album by Stromae. No dates were announced but everything is made on purpose from genius communication.

The song is celebrating the workers that are working hard to make a living. The lyrics definitely have a resonance with our actual crisis with the corona where essential employees have to still work to maintain society. The beautiful tribute to the invisible workers has some instrumental with some electro and Latino vibes that reminds me of one of the previous beautiful music from Stromae “Ave Cesaria”. By the way, the new album Multitude is now released!
